Mahindra is known for its utility vehicles. From the iconic Mahindra Thar, the Bolero, Rowdy Scorpio to the premium Mahindra Alturas G4. All are famous for their off-road capabilities and value for money pieces. But the automotive industry forgot a precious gem launched in 2008 in the luxury pick up segment! Yes, I am talking about the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway.
Mahindra introduced its pickup called the Scorpio Getaway back in 2008. The vehicle had all the features from the Scorpio like Air Conditioner, Power Steering, Power Windows, Voice Assist and many more. But because of the low sales figures, Mahindra pulled the plug on the Getaway in 2018.
The Scorpio Getaway was launched in two variants, the 2WD and 4WD. It was introduced with the 2.6-litre CRDe SZ engine which produced 115bhp and later upgraded it with the BS4 2.2-litre mHAWK engine with a power of 120 horses. The vehicle was rough, rugged, tough and a capable off-roader. Scorpio Getaway known by different names like Mahindra Pickup, Mahindra Goa, Mahindra Karoo etc. is a very successful vehicle in the international market.
With a loading capacity of 995kg, which is very close to 1 tonne. It was a comfortable cruiser for 5 people. The suspension was very rugged, having leaf spring setup at the rear and Independent front suspension, the getaway could easily conquer any terrain you wish to through at it.
With the increasing craze of ISUZU V-cross D-max, Indian buyers are also considering 4WD pickups in the urban areas. Mahindra is also planning to launch the Getaway again in the BS6 version. Let’s see what Mahindra Brings for us.
